Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit Review

February 3, 2023
The bed in a standard king room at the Hyatt Place Bangkok

I stayed at the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit for two nights in January of 2023. In my review I will cover the room and its amenities, the hotel breakfast, hotel restaurant, pool and gym, and the hotel’s location.

I paid for my stay using my own Hyatt points and this review isn’t sponsored in any way.

My husband and I are currently on a “Year Long Honeymoon” traveling around Europe and Asia. I’m attempting to earn Hyatt Globalist Status this year and the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit was my first Hyatt stay of many for 2023.

The Room

I used points to book a “Standard King Room.” Currently I just have Discoverist Status with Hyatt which is the lowest tier status above “Member” so I was not upgraded. I was expecting a small room considering we were staying in the middle of a large city, but I found the room to be quite spacious.

There was a desk area with a chair, a mini fridge and a water kettle for tea and coffee. There was also a couch with a side table for a second person to work or relax on.

The Bed

The bed was billed as a king bed, but I don’t think it was quite the full dimensions of an American king size bed. Despite the size, the bed itself was comfortable, not too soft or too hard. There was a side table on each side of the bed with outlets and a reading light.

The pillows squished very flat, so if you like a thicker pillow you may need to request one.

Bathroom Amenities

There is shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel in large refillable pump containers in the shower. There was a small bottle of lotion, bar soap,  tooth brushes, and ear swabs available in the bathroom as well.

Coffee/Tea

An electric water kettle is provided along with a few tea options and instant coffee. Two filtered water bottles are provided each day as well but we found these to taste slightly too chlorinated. We ended up just using them to brush our teeth with.

Review of the Hyatt Place Bangkok's Breakfast

Breakfast at the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is free and included for all bookings. The hours are 6:30 to 10:30 during the week and 6:30 to 11:00 on the weekends.

The first morning we stayed at the hotel we went up for breakfast just before 9am on a Monday and it was packed. There weren’t many tables available and they ran out of forks for a few minute. The second morning we got to breakfast around 9:30am on Tuesday and it was much less busy.

Breakfast offerings during our stay included pastries and breads, a salad bar, fresh sliced fruit, yogurts, oatmeal, a made to order egg station, various Asian dumplings and bao, a few hot Western dishes and a few hot Asian dishes. For a “free” hotel breakfast I would definitely call it an above average.

While you wont find many typical American style breakfast dishes, there is something for every palate.

Aire Bar - The Hotel's Rooftop Restaurant

The Aire Bar is the only restaurant open in the hotel for lunch and dinner. It is located on the 28th floor. Most of the tables are outside with nice views of the Bangkok skyline, but there are a few seating areas inside as well.

The restaurant features a few Thai menu items but a majority of the dishes are Western, including pizza and pasta. I only tried an appetizer and dessert, so I cannot speak to the main food entrees. Both my appetizer and dessert were good but a little over priced. I paid $17 USD for chips and salsa, a fresh juice and a mango sticky rice.

After spending a month in Thailand, this was one of my most expensive meals of the whole trip and we didn’t even get a full meal! This isn’t isolated to the Hyatt Place though, everything in this area of Bangkok is higher-end.

Review of Other Hotel Amenities

The Gym

There are three different rooms that comprise the gym. They’re all next to each other on the 19th floor of the hotel. There is a weight room, a cardio room, and a studio room that has yoga mats. The cardio room has three treadmills, one elliptical, and two stationary bikes.

The equipment all seems relatively new and the treadmill I used was a “smart treadmill” as it looked like you could log into your Netflix account or other streaming services. There is also free drinking water available in the weight room.

Overall I give a thumbs up to the gym! It was clean and well maintained. We were working out in the middle of a week day but there were never more than one or two other people there.

The Pool

The pool is located on the 19th floor of the hotel, the same level that has the gym. It is outside and has a decent view of other buildings around. There is an outdoor shower to rinse off and a handful of lounge chairs and umbrellas. It’s definitely not a big area, but when I went up to check it out, there were only three people up there on a Monday afternoon.

Hyatt Place Bangkok's Lobby

The lobby at the Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is located on the 1st floor (2nd floor for the Americans reading this!) There isn’t an indoor lobby on the ground floor, just an overhang with an elevator bank and a small concierge desk.

The lobby itself is large and spacious with a ton of seating. There are couches, chairs and some tables if you want to get any work done outside your room.

The staff working at the front desk were always very kind and helpful. We didn’t have to wait more than a minute or two to check in or out. They were also more than happy to help us print our visas for the next country we were going to.

There is a market area next to the front desk selling snacks and drinks. I did not purchase anything but they seemed to have a larger selection than most hotels.

Location Review

The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is located a five minute walk from the Phrom Phong subway station. From there you can get anywhere in the city.

There are restaurants and cafe’s up and down the street the hotel is on, plus next to the Phrom Phong subway station is a massive mall called EmQuartier. EmQuartier has several food courts, some with fast food and others with nicer sit-down restaurants. There is even a fancy gourmet grocery store in the mall! You will certainly never be at a lack of restaurants nearby at the Hyatt Place Bangkok.

Hyatt Place Bangkok Price

Points: The Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit is a Category 1 Hyatt property. That means you can typically book this hotel with 5,000 Hyatt points per night. Off-peak nights will cost 3,500 points and peak nights will cost 6,500 points.  I used points to book my stay and both nights were at the standard 5,000 points rate.

Cash Rate: I checked several months of pricing for this hotel and you can typically book a standard room for $80 – $100 USD. You can certainly find cheaper places in Bangkok but I found the price to be reasonable given the large room, free breakfast and updated gym.

Overall Review of Hyatt Place Bangkok Sukhumvit

Would I recommend this property? Yes I would. If I come back to Bangkok I would definitely consider staying again. If you want simple but clean, updated, and reasonably priced, I would recommend this hotel.

If you’re looking for a luxury hotel with top notch service, a fancy spa and other amenities, you should find another property.

Pros: good location, updated workout room, rooftop pool, breakfast selection, price, friendly staff, spacious rooms

Cons: busy and crowded breakfast, having to take the elevator up to get to the lobby, long wait time for elevators

    Final Score: 8.5/10
