Hyatt Regency Bali Review

June 29, 2023

I spent a full week enjoying the amenities, beautiful grounds and the famous Balinese hospitality at the Hyatt Regency Bali in March 2023. In this post I will review the room, the Regency Club, the pool, the restaurants, and other amenities offered by the Hyatt Regency Bali.

I paid for my own stay using Hyatt points and this post is in no ways sponsored by Hyatt or anyone else. To learn how to stay at this hotel for free using points, read my post, “How I Got 55 Free Hotel Nights During My Year Long Honeymoon (and how you can too!)”.

The Room

I booked a standard King room and I ended up on the 3rd of 4 floors. All rooms come with a balcony or a patio if you’re on the ground floor. The hotel has three separate buildings and only the 3rd building truly gets a view of the ocean.

The room was relatively spacious and there was a full closet in the entryway to store your luggage and hang up your clothes.

I didn’t spend much time in the room, but it is a comfortable place if you choose to do so.

The Bathroom & Toiletries

The bathroom was spacious with a double sink and additional storage space for toiletries or clothes on the opposite wall. There was a moderately sized shower with a normal shower head and an overhead rain shower.

Bathroom amenities were basic but everything we needed was provided. There was not a bathtub in our room.

Regency Club Review

I used points to book a room with Regency Club access. There are a few ways to get Club access: paying for a higher tier of room with Club access, using points to book a higher tier of room, using a Club upgrade certificate, or finally by having Globalist Status with Hyatt.

With Regency Club access at the Hyatt Regency Bali you get a breakfast buffet in the morning, free soft drinks and light snacks throughout the day, and cocktail hour each evening from 5 to 7pm.

Regency Club Breakfast

I was truly blown away by how good the breakfast at the Regency Club was. My favorite part was the freshly baked breads and pastries they had. Whoever their pastry chef is, they really know what they’re doing!

In addition to the fresh baked bread, there is fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, plus a hot food area with both Western and Asian dishes. You can get your eggs made to order each morning and there was never a long wait to do so.

Regency Club Cocktail Hour

The cocktail hour includes unlimited alcoholic beverages and appetizers for two hours each evening. They have beer, wine, and liquor. I mostly had white wine and I really enjoyed the selection they had.

We stayed one full week at the Hyatt Regency and went to the cocktail hour each night. I think they have about five different nights of appetizers because we had some repeats the last two days we were there. There seems to be about four to six hot appetizers each night as well as a large selections of breads, cheeses, cold salads, and desserts.

Review of the Pools & Beach

Pools

In the main pool area there are two pools, a hot tub, and a children’s pool. The pools themselves are clean, decently sized and weren’t overcrowded during my stay. The only downside is the  pool chairs (especially the ones in the shade) do get full very quickly. There were always plenty available on the beach though.

Main pool

There is another adults only pool at the property that is much quieter than the main pool. It is located by the spa and fitness center. I never hung out by the pool, but I passed by it several times on the way to the gym and it never had more than a handful of people at it.

Beach

The beach at the Hyatt Regency Bali faces east, so while you won’t have beautiful sunsets you will be treated to amazing sunrises if you wake up early enough!

The hotel is right on the beach, which the pool area and beach separate by a public walking path.

The beach is public but the Hyatt has its own private beach chairs for guests. There were always plenty of chairs available. The only downside here is that there aren’t many waiters that come to the beach so if you want to order food or drinks you might have to go track one down by the pool.

Book a fun excursion during your stay in Bali! I chose a day trip to Nusa Penida.

On Site Restaurants

There are two full-service on site restaurants, Omang-Omang and the Pizzeria. You can also order food from the pool or from room service.

Breakfast is served at Omang-Omang unless you have Regency Club access where they serve their own breakfast in the Club.

Omang-Omang

Omang-Omang is the “local” Indonesian restaurant. The Indonesian food on the menu is more expensive than the Western food which definitely confused me a bit. I didn’t order any Indonesian food here because you could find the same thing for half the price just outside the hotel. I did however order a fried halloumi quinoa and avocado salad that was excellent.

If you don’t want to adventure outside the hotel to try local food, I’m sure the Indonesian food at Omang-Omang is excellent because all the other food I had at the Hyatt Regency was, but there are dozens of other restaurants within walking distance.

Pizzeria

The pizzeria has both pizza and pasta on the menu. The regular size pizza is good quality, affordable and more than enough food for one person.

I did not try the pasta but the options looked good and affordable too.

Lunch at the Pool

I found the service to be slightly lacking by the pool. No one ever comes around to ask if you’d like anything, so you have to flag someone down to order. In certain areas of the pool it seems like the employees never walk around so it’s difficult to find someone to order from. They do put menus next to all the pool chairs so it seems like they want people to order by the pool, but then they rarely come around.

Once you do order however, food and drinks do come out quickly. The quality of the food is great, especially for the price. I ordered a pizza and Coke Zero for $9 USD including the tax and service fee. The pizza was good and filling enough that I couldn’t finish it.

Fitness Center & Spa

The spa, gym, and adults only pool are located together. I used the gym three times during my week long stay and it was only busy once on Nyepi (a holiday on Bali where you are not allowed to leave your home or hotel.)

There are several treadmills, a few other cardio machines, a few weight machines, free weights, and yoga mats available for use. The gym was nothing special, but definitely adequate as far as hotel fitness centers go.

There are some yoga classes and other classes available for an additional fee but I did not participate in them.

Location Review

The Hyatt Regency Bali is located in the town of Sanur. It’s approximately 30-45 minutes by car from the airport, depending on traffic.

There are dozens of restaurants and shops within walking distance of the hotel. There is also a nice paved walking path on the beach right outside the hotel as well.

I think the location of the Hyatt Regency Bali is wonderful. I have stayed at a few other Hyatt properties in Bali (Grand Hyatt and Alila Manggis) and while the properties were amazing you’re kind of stuck there. With the Hyatt Regency Bali you can walk to so many restaurants, shops and other beach areas.

Cost of the Hyatt Regency Bali

Points: When I booked this hotel it was a Category 1 Hyatt property (5,000 points per night), but unfortunately as of March 28, 2023 it is now a Category 2 property (8,000 points per night.)  I visited Bali during the end of rainy season so 4 of my 7 nights at the hotel were off-peak nights. Even as a Category 2 hotel, I think this is a great Hyatt property to use your points at, especially if you get some off-peak rates.

Cash Rate: If you don’t have Hyatt points, this property is still a great deal, especially in the shoulder season. Expect to pay around $100 per night in the off season and up to $200 per night during peak season for a basic room. Yes, you can find cheaper places to stay in Bali, but you can also spend a lot more.

I think if this exact property was located in Hawaii it would easily cost over $500 per night. I really do think the Hyatt Regency Bali provides a lot of value for the money, especially if you have access to the Regency Club.

Overall Review of the Hyatt Regency Bali

Would I recommend this property? Yes I would.

Pros: Regency Club breakfast is very good, location is great, staff is friendly, pool is beautiful

Cons: No A/C anywhere except in your room, pool chairs can fill up early on busy days

Final Score: 8/10 without Regency Club Access, 9.5/10 with Regency Club Access
