Hyatt Regency West Hanoi Review

March 3, 2023

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency West Hanoi for four nights in February 2023. I spend a month in Vietnam with my husband as part of our “Year Long Honeymoon” and this was our final stop in Vietnam before flying to our next country.

I paid for my own stay using Hyatt points and this review is not sponsored in anyway.

I will review our room, the Regency Club, breakfast, hotel amenities, location and price. Finally I will give my overall review of the Hyatt Regency West Hanoi.

Table of Contents

The Room

I booked a “King Regency Suite with Club Access” for 8,000 Hyatt points per night. There are two suites on each floor and they’re incredibly spacious.

The entry way led into a room with a desk, couch, chair, TV, fridge, and coffee maker. There was a sliding door separating the living space from the bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom itself was large with another desk and chair, TV,  and lounge chair.

The standard rooms are about the same size as the suite without the living area, which is still a spacious room.

The Bed

I found the bed to be very comfortable, and the best part was that it was actually a real King size bed. Sometimes I find “King size” bed in Asia to just mean fits two people, but this bed was definitely an American size King bed.

Each side of the bed came with two pillows, one small and one larger. They both seemed like faux feather pillows and squished down a lot. I prefer squishy pillows so I was happy, but if you like firm pillows you may need to request one.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is standard size for a hotel, it didn’t feel too small or overly large. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are in large refillable containers in the shower.

There are additional toiletries in a box on the sink including a razor, cotton rounds and cotton swabs, a toothbrush, and a shower cap. One thing noticeably missing was lotion which I feel is normally available at hotels.

The bathroom had a separate shower and bathtub. The shower has a large rain shower-head and the tub was large and comfortable.

The bathroom was separate from the bedroom with a glass wall, but there is a privacy curtain you can pull down.

Other Room Amenities

Food and beverage wise, the room came with a refrigerator, a water kettle, and a coffee maker.

There was a tv in the living area and another in the bedroom.

There were robes and slippers in the closet as well as an iron and ironing board. There wasn’t a bag for laundry even though our room came with 3 pieces of complimentary laundry per day so I found that slightly odd.

Breakfast Review

We had breakfast included with our stay since we booked a room with club access. The breakfast buffet was simply out of this world! There was so much food to choose from, and they even had different “stations” for several different cuisines. They had Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, and Western food stations.

The eggs were all cooked to order, which I sometimes find annoying due to wait time, but there was never a long line during my stay. They had a separate area for breads, pastries, and items like pancakes and bread pudding, plus a cold area for fruit and salad.

As you’re being seated the servers take your coffee order and you can get anything from standard drip coffee, to Vietnamese iced coffee, to cappuccinos.

I would truly give this breakfast buffet a 10/10!

Regency Club Review

You can gain access to the Regency Club either by booking a room with Club access or by having Globalist Status with Hyatt. When you have access to the Club you get breakfast included in your stay as well, so it’s a good deal to get a room with club access if you can afford to.

The staff in the Regency Club were always so kind and ready to assist you with making a cappuccino, a pot of tea, or refilling your drink during the cocktail hour. The staff got to know us during our stay and stopped asking us for our room number because they recognized us.

The Space

The Regency Club is on the 24th floor and has amazing views and a modern but comfortable style. The club opens every morning at 10am. It’s a great place to work (which I did nearly every day) and it has coffee, tea, soft drinks and light snacks throughout the day. During my stay the snacks were just cookies and nuts.

Evening Cocktail Hour

From 6:00-9:00pm each night there is a cocktail hour. Other Hyatts I’ve stayed at have only been open for two hours in the evening so I loved that they served drinks for three hours here. Drink options include unlimited beer, wine, liquor and soft drinks.

Food wise, there is a hot food section and a cold food section. The cold food included bread, cheese, deli meats, salads, spring rolls, and desserts. The hot food changed every night which we really appreciated. There was always a variety of meat and veggie appetizers and they were always really fresh and tasty!

Other Hotel Amenitites

The Lobby

The lobby is large and spacious. There aren’t many places to sit on the first floor but there are a few. There is more room to sit on the second level with a mezzanine overlooking the lobby. There are also several meeting rooms on the second floor.

The Gym

The gym is located on the 4th floor by the spa and pool. It’s one of the larger and nicer hotel gyms I’ve been to and I went three times during my stay.

The equipment clearly isn’t very new but it was all in good working condition and very clean. There are four treadmills, and several other cardio machines. There are both free weights and weight machines.

The Pool & Spa

The pool is located outside on the 4th floor. It’s quite a large pool but I didn’t see anyone using it during my four day stay as the weather wasn’t very nice. Hanoi tends to be overcast a lot of the time, and we barely saw the sun at all in four days.

There is a spa on the 4th floor as well. There is an indoor sauna and hot tub and you can book massages too.

Location Review

The Hyatt Regency West Hanoi is not in the typical tourist hubs of the Old Quarter or the French Quarter. If you want to spend most of your time in the center of town, this is not the hotel for you.

There are many restaurants in walking distance from the hotel and because the hotel is not in the touristy area, they’re local, authentic and affordable. I had excellent bun cha less about a kilometer away from the hotel.

The Hanoi airport is located far north of the city, so it’s still about a 30-40 minute drive to the airport. You do however, avoid most of the city traffic on the way to the airport by staying at this hotel because it’s on the edge of town.

Hyatt Regency West Hanoi Price Review

Points: The Hyatt Regency West Hanoi is a Category 1 Hyatt property. That means you can typically book this hotel with 5,000 Hyatt points per night. Off-peak nights will cost 3,500 points and peak nights will cost 6,500 points.

Booking a room with Regency Club access is 7,000 points per night or you can book a Suite with Club access for 8,000 points per night.

I used points to book my four night stay and I found 8,000 points to be a great redemption for a suite with club access.

Cash Rate: A standard room without breakfast hovers right around $100 USD per night. You can stay across the street in a decent hotel with breakfast included for just $35 USD and we did exactly that before we moved to the Hyatt.

If you will use the gym, pool, and other services at the Hyatt Regency Hanoi the price is worth it. If you just need somewhere to sleep, you can certainly find much cheaper places to stay.
